今年，是英国《卫报》（The Guardian）卫报大学奖（Guardian University Awards）第六年承认那些激发学生和改变社区的英国大学。

2018卫报大学奖（The Guardian University Awards 2018）旨在庆祝英国大学的多元化机构，以及他们为满足包容性多样化数字世界的需求而进行更新的创新方式。或许恰当地说，社会和社区影响（Social and community impact）是今年提交数量最多的类别。

来自斯旺西大学（Swansea University）的获奖作品通过由员工和学生组成的开放式诊所帮助填补了当地NHS服务的空白。提交数字紧随其后的是学生体验（student experience）类别，该类别被授予萨里大学（University of Surrey）内部的学生出租机构，旨在解决当地的高租金问题。

今年还推出了几个新类别，以反映不断变化的高等教育环境。

为了承认扩大大学参与的重要性日益增加，学生多样性被分为两大类：扩大获取和拓展（Widening access and outreach）以及保留，支持和学生成果（retention, support and student outcomes）。
